Alantra has advised the shareholders of Bowlplex on the sale of the business to The Original Bowling Company (‘TOBC’), backed by Electra Partners (Electra). Funding for the transaction was underwritten by Electra. The transaction was subject to approval from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA); which was subsequently approved subject to the divestment of six sites to third party operators. This secondary transaction was secured in just six weeks and once accepted by the CMA, enabled completion of the primary sale to TOBC.
Founded in 1976, Bowlplex operates 17 high-quality ten-pin bowling centres across the UK, primarily located in leisure or retail parks. The acquisition of Bowlplex will increase Electra’s interest in the UK’s ten-pin bowling sector following its investment in TOBC in September 2014. TOBC operates under the Hollywood Bowl and AMF brands.
