Santiago de Chile – Alantra, the global investment banking and asset management specialist, is pleased to announce that it has advised Babytuto (“the Company”), the leading Chilean e-commerce baby products platform, on the sale of 100% of its shares to Walmart (WMT), a leading global retailer which operates a chain of hypermarkets, department stores and grocery stores.

Founded in 2013 by the current CEO Daniela Lorca, the e-commerce platform Babytuto sells baby products, maternity, and infant goods up to five years of age. The Company has become the leading one-stop-shop platform for baby products and related products in Chile, delivering an outstanding customer experience based on a community concept and excellent service. Babytuto’s website accompanies its clients step by step through their baby’s development, providing information, products and services in one place. The platform offers more than 35,000 baby products and more than 2,000 articles discussing motherhood, newborn care, feeding, and breastfeeding.

Walmart Inc. is a U.S. multinational retail corporation that operates a chain of hypermarkets, discount stores and grocery stores. Founded in 1962, Walmart has become one of the world’s largest companies. Walmart operates more than 10,500 stores, “clubs”, and e-commerce websites under 48 banners across 24 countries. It also employs approximately 2.2 million associates around the world.

This transaction will allow Babytuto to join Walmart’s distribution network, improving the Company’s delivery times and product offering. Alantra’s team in Chile provided M&A sell-side advisory to Babytuto, structuring a highly competitive process involving local and international investors.

“Modern retail demands more significant and faster improvements,” said Daniela Lorca, CEO at Babytuto. “As part of the Walmart Chile family we will be able to continue serving the entire community that we have built for eight years. Joining Walmart’s distribution network will result in better delivery times and a greater diversity of products which will benefit all of our customers who are raising babies.”

Gianni Casanova, Partner at Alantra, said: “We are proud to have advised Babytuto, Chile’s leading maternity, baby and infant product e-commerce company, on their sale to Walmart. This investment is in line with Walmart’s global strategy, which seeks to expand its breadth of products and supplier relationships throughout Latin America and capitalize on the growing importance of women consumers and their wallet share.”
