Alantra has advised SLR Consulting (SLR), a leading global environment and advisory consultancy on its investment from Charterhouse Capital Partners (Charterhouse), providing an exit for minority investor 3i.

The transaction will be implemented by way of a conditional court approved scheme of arrangement by SLR and it is anticipated that completion will take place by mid-2018. SLR provides global environmental and advisory services from a network of offices in Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific and Africa. It specialises in advising clients in the oil and gas, mining and minerals, infrastructure, industry, built environment, and power sectors. SLR has over 1,100 employees based in 70 offices around the world. Under 3i’s ownership, SLR has completed 18 acquisitions, enabling the business to expand globally and reinforce its position as a leader in environmental consulting and advisory specialisms.

The new investment will help drive SLR’s ambitious plans for growth and support the company in making new acquisitions, building on SLR’s existing strong position and consolidating the fragmented environmental consultancy industry. As part of Charterhouse’s investment, SLR’s management team and other employees will retain a substantial equity stake in the business.

Andy Currie, Managing Partner of Alantra, and lead advisor on the transaction commented: “We are delighted to have advised SLR on their successful deal and are confident that in partnership with Charterhouse they will be able to further accelerate the growth of the business.”

Neil Penhall, SLR’s CEO, commented, “I am delighted to confirm Charterhouse as our new investment partner. We have ambitious plans for further organic and acquisitive growth and development of the business over the coming few years. In selecting Charterhouse, we have a new financial partner who recognises SLR’s unique positioning in the market and has extensive experience in the environmental and advisory services sector.”

Chris Warren, Partner at Charterhouse, said, “We are excited about partnering with SLR in the next stage of their growth story. We have been very impressed by SLR’s plans and look forward to backing the team. There is a tremendous market opportunity for SLR through both organic and acquisitive growth and we’ll ensure that the company has all the support needed to take advantage of it.”
