Paris – Alantra, the independent global mid-market investment banking, asset management and portfolio advisory firm, has advised Korian, the leading European care and support services group for the elderly, on the acquisition of 5 Santé Group from its founder Catherine Miffre and the investment fund Parquest Capital. 5 Santé is the last sizeable French independent player in the treatment of chronic diseases.

Founded over 25 years ago, 5 Santé is a post-acute and rehabilitation care business that specialises in the treatment of chronic diseases including pneumology, cardiology, neurology, and addictions. Recognised for the rehabilitation of patients suffering from respiratory diseases, 5 Santé offers customised care pathways to patients who live at home and visit its clinics for pre-scheduled stays. The group owns six clinics located in the regions of Occitanie and Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, representing a total capacity of c.500 beds and c.100 day hospital units. 5 Santé group generated an estimated revenue of €44m in 2019.

With this acquisition, Korian becomes the French leader in the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (“COPD”) sector, strengthening its existing expertise (cardiology, neurology, addictions) and increasing its presence in the Occitanie and Auvergne Rhône-Alpes regions.

Korian generated turnover of €3.3bn in 2018. The group has over 50,000 employees and manages c.850 healthcare facilities in France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain.

This transaction reinforces Alantra’s track record in the care services sector with more than 16 transactions completed over the last three years, including Amundi PEF and Société Générale Capital Partners’ investment in Vivalto Vie, Korian’s acquisition of Oméga group, DOREA’s sale to Maisons de Famille and Colisée’s acquisition of STS group, amongst others.
