Frankfurt – Alantra, a global leader in mid-market investment banking and asset management, has advised Domidep, one of France’s largest private operators of elderly care homes, on the acquisition of Römergarten Residenzen GmbH and Römergarten Senioren-Residenzen Ba-Wü GmbH (“Römergarten” or “the Company”). The transaction is subject to the approval of the German antitrust authorities.
Established in 2012 and based in Schifferstadt, Germany, Römergarten currently operates 15 elderly care homes and ~1,400 beds in the federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse and Baden-Württemberg, providing a range of services, including nursing care, assisted living and specialised dementia care.
Domidep is one of the leading French private nursing home operators with more than 100 nursing homes in France and Belgium and more than €300m sales and is backed by US-based investment manager I Squared Capital.
I Squared Capital is an independent global infrastructure investment manager with $18.3 billion in assets under management, focusing on utilities, digital infrastructure, transportation, social infrastructure and energy across North America, Europe, and select high growth economies in Asia and Latin America. I Squared Capital owns and operates a diverse portfolio of 30 companies in its targeted sectors and regions providing essential services to millions of people around the world, including digital infrastructure, energy, social infrastructure, transport and utilities. This acquisition of Römergarten expands I Squared Capital’s experience in European healthcare, after it acquired Domidep in 2019.
For Domidep, the acquisition of Römergarten marks the next step in the group’s internationalisation strategy and the first entry into the highly attractive German elderly care services market.
Adil Rahmathulla, Managing Partner of I Squared Capital: “As an established, long-term investor with a strategic ambition to build a European health care platform of scale, I Squared Capital looks forward to supporting the growth of essential health and social care providers. Our existing investment in Domidep means we are well placed to work with the experienced Römergarten management team to grow the business, while ensuring best practice and high standards of care for residents.”
Pascal Guérin, CEO of Domidep: “Römergarten has an excellent track record of providing high-quality care to its residents in Germany. We think that with Römergarten, we have found the ideal platform on which to build an elderly care business of scale in Germany through development of new facilities, best-practice care provision and further consolidation within the sector. We would like to take the opportunity to thank the Alantra team for the excellent advice and close guidance in all facets throughout this transaction.”
