Madrid – Alantra has acted as Debt Coordinator in the structuring and syndication of a €222mn financing for BRUC Alter Energías Renovables, supporting the refinancing of an operational solar photovoltaic (PV) portfolio and the development of hybrid solar and battery energy storage (BESS) assets in Spain.

BRUC is a renewable energy developer and independent power producer (IPP) focused on solar PV, onshore wind, and battery storage assets, generating revenue through long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) and merchant electricity sales. The financed portfolio is held by BRUC Alter Energías Renovables, a joint venture owned by BRUC II (55%) and Alter Enersun (45%), and comprises 208 MW of operational solar PV capacity and the development of 118 MW of battery storage across Andalusia and Extremadura.

The transaction supports BRUC’s strategy of integrating battery storage into its existing renewable energy assets, enhancing operational flexibility, optimizing electricity revenues, and facilitating the implementation of long-term hybrid PPAs with investment-grade counterparties.

Manuel Fernandez, Managing Director at Alantra, commented: “This transaction represents an important step in the integration of battery storage into operational renewable energy portfolios in Spain. By structuring a financing solution that supports both existing solar assets and new storage capacity, we are helping BRUC enhance the flexibility and long-term value of its renewable energy platform. It also demonstrates the growing role of tailored financing structures in supporting the evolution of the energy sector.”

This transaction reinforces Alantra’s track record in the Energy & Power Infrastructure sector, having recently advised Audax Renovables on its €350mn high-yield bond issuance, Finerge on a €115mn construction financing for a hybrid solar PV portfolio in Portugal, and Rolwind Renovables on the sale of a battery energy storage portfolio in Spain to ENGIE.
