Milan – Alantra, an independent global investment banking and asset management firm, has advised Affidea, a leading pan-European provider of advanced diagnostic imaging, outpatient and cancer care, on the acquisition of 100% of the share capital of Medicenter Group, an Italian diagnostic imaging service provider.
Affidea is one of the largest healthcare investors in Europe and is 100% owned by Waypoint Capital, a life sciences investment business associated with the entrepreneurial Bertarelli family. Affidea owns and operates 246 medical centers in 16 countries: Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Ireland, UK, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Turkey, Czech Republic, and Lithuania. The company serves more than 6.5 million patients per year, performs €430Mn sales per year and has a €90Mn EBITDA.
Medicenter Group is a private provider of healthcare services including diagnostic imaging, laboratory analysis, medical examinations and physiotherapy. The company operates three clinics located in Lazio and Umbria.
Medicenter’s two founders will stay with the company and retain their current positions after the merger. As a part of the transaction, the sellers will reinvest a portion of the proceeds to establish a new state-of-the-art medical center in Central Italy which will then be incorporated into the Affidea group.
