Alantra has acted as sole M&A Alantra advised Repsol on the acquisition of the Power Retail and Low-emission Generation Business of Viesgo from Macquarie and Wren House for a total consideration of €750m.

The deal is a significant step toward Repsol’s strategic objective of becoming an operator in a profitable low-emissions business and increase its retail electricity and gas customer portfolio. With this purchase Repsol becomes a relevant player in the Spanish electricity generation market, with total installed capacity of 2,950 MW. In addition, the Group accomplishes a relevant foothold in the retail gas and electricity sector in Spain, adding almost 750,000 customers.

Repsol is a global integrated energy company, primarily engaged in upstream and downstream energy activities, including exploration, development and production of crude oil and natural gas. The company is headquartered in Madrid, Spain and employs around 24,000 people worldwide.

Founded in 1906, Viesgo Infraestructuras Energéticas is a private Spanish electricity company owned by Macquarie and Wren House. Employing c. 1,000 professionals, it currently distributes electricity through a network of 31,150 kilometres and has 3.755 MW of conventional and renewable power generation capacity across Spain and Portugal and services around 745,000 customers.
