London – Alantra, the global investment banking and asset management specialist, has advised the founder of Balhousie Care Group, one of Scotland’s leading care home providers, on its sale to international healthcare firm, AcalisCare.

Balhousie Care Group was founded 30 years ago by Tony Banks. It is now home to almost 1000 residents in 26 care facilities, ranging from residential and nursing to specialist care, across six regions of Scotland. The deal with AcalisCare means Balhousie and its 1400 staff now enter an exciting new growth phase.

AcalisCare, which has almost two decades of international experience in operating and developing care homes on an international level, will further Balhousie’s expansion and capital investment plans with the current management.

Balhousie’s planned capital investment includes extensions to two of its flagship homes, in Broughty Ferry and Bonnybridge. It is also advancing plans for new care homes in Dundee, Perth and Callander.

Justin Crowther, Partner and UK Head of Healthcare, and Matthew Kumeta led the deal for Alantra. They sourced, secured and structured the sale.

Justin Crowther, Partner and UK Head of Healthcare, commented, “We are delighted to have helped Tony and his team to secure the purchase by AcalisCare. This marks a new, exciting growth phase for Balhousie Care.”

Tony Banks, Founder and former Chairman of Balhousie Care Group, said, “It was hugely important to me that any investment partner we worked with shared Balhousie’s values and aspirations, and I believe AcalisCare does. Alantra worked tirelessly to secure this outcome. Their dedication, experience and knowledge of our market were invaluable in helping me and my team navigate a complex process. I recommend them highly to anyone thinking about this type of process.”

Lieven Baten, Partner in AcalisCare and the new Chairman of Balhousie Care Group, said, “Balhousie Care is a natural fit for us and this deal gives us an important foothold in Scotland. Balhousie brings innovation and excitement to Scotland’s care sector. We see huge potential to grow and expand the services under the Balhousie brand.”
