In February 2014, The Firmlaunched a new project to complete the range of products it offered its corporate and institutional clients with specialized advice on the acquisition and sale of non-core assets, primarily in the financial sector. We set up a team of professionals to specifically work on these transactions, which combined with our Investment Banking teams specializing in Real Estate and the FIG sectors, would create a unique offering in this kind of transactions.

“Alantra has the largest portfolio advisory group on Europe with over 140 professionals in Greece, Ireland Italy, Spain and the UK”

These non-core asset transactions are complex and specialist and are predicated on the valuation, structuring and sale of different kinds of portfolios: performing and non-performing loans, real estate assets, invoices, collection claims and the sales operations of real estate servicers. Within four years, the small, founding team of five grew to over 40 professionals in Spain who executed 80 transactions in five countries for a total volume of €65bn.

Some of the most significant transactions completed during this period include advising Hellenic Bank in the creation of the first servicer in Cyprus, a JV with APS, with assets under servicing of €2.5bn; Liberbank on the sale of a €500m NPL portfolio and a subsequent €600mn capital increase; Oitante, the company created to manage Banif´s assets, on the sale of its real estate asset management and debt servicing unit (assets under servicing of €1.6bn) to Altamira Asset Management; and, the sale of a €6.4bn NPL portfolio from Catalunya Banc to Blackstone.

In July 2018, Alantra completed our team and cemented our ambition in this area of investment banking by acquiring KPMG’s UK portfolio solutions group. It had been established during the Asian financial crisis and based in London since 2008. The team initially comprised over 35 dedicated professionals who brought with them a vast experience, having executed over 100 transactions across 30 countries, with a combined deal value in excess of €180bn since 2014. We now have the largest portfolio advisory group on Europe with over 140 professionals in Greece, Ireland Italy, Spain and the UK.
