Alantra strengthens its Asset Management Business Development team with three senior appointments

• Carlos Varela (Managing Director) brings to the role 23 years of experience within asset management, sustainable investing and ESG expertise.
• Catherine Halford (Managing Director) and Alex Liddle (Director) bring more than 20 and 15 years of experience to the role, respectively, and will focus on the UK market.
• The new appointments respond to Alantra’s strategic objective of growing its asset management business by incorporating new strategies and asset classes, attracting high-quality investors to diversify its investor-base, and hiring highly specialised management teams.

Madrid – Alantra, the independent global mid-market investment banking and asset management firm, is pleased to announce the appointment of Carlos Varela, Catherine Halford and Alex Liddle in Alantra Asset Management’s business development and investor relations team. The new hires will support the firm in the internationalisation of its client base, with the UK being a key growth market.

Carlos Varela joins from JPMorgan, where he started his career in Asset Management in 1998 as a graduate. In his 23 year tenure at JPMorgan Asset Management, he has been Head of Sales Iberia, Head of Institutional Business for Latin America and lately Head of Client Solutions EMEA within the Sustainable investing team.  He has a successful track record in business development and a deep global perspective managing client relationships across different channels (Institutional and Wealth) in Europe, the US, and LatAm. His strengths include extensive sustainable investing and ESG expertise, strong technical knowledge across asset classes, including alternatives and proven experience leading high performing sales and client solutions teams.

Catherine Halford has more than 22 years of experience across all asset classes with a more recent focus on alternative investments, successfully raising AuM for Infrastructure, Real Estate, Equities, Private & Public Credit strategies and Hedge Funds. Over the years, Catherine has covered all types of clients across retail and institutional, predominantly focusing on the UK market. Catherine has held a series of business development roles in the asset management industry at Allianz Global Investors, JPMorgan Asset Management and Man Group throughout her career.

Alex Liddle has extensive experience working with investors across public and private market strategies. Lately, he has focused on raising AuM for equity and debt investments into real assets. Alex began his asset management career in 2006 and has held positions within the sales and distribution teams of Russell Investments, Standard Life Investors and Aviva Investors, where he managed relationships with clients in the institutional market.
