The Global Mid-Market Specialist
Paris- Alantra advised Ynsect, the global leader in the mass-scale breeding of insects for the animal food markets on a €14.2m fundraising led by Future Positive Capital and Bpifrance Ecotechnologies, with participation of existing investors Emertec, Demeter, New Protein Capital. This latest round brings the cumulative amount to €35m since its creation in 2011 by Antoine Hubert (CEO), Alexis Angot, Jean-Gabriel Levon and Fabrice Berro.
This fundraising will enable Ynsect to increase its capacity at Ynsite, Ynsect’s pilot plant in Jura, France, and to begin a preparatory engineering studies on the world’s largest insect production unit. It will have the capacity to produce circa 20,000 metric tons of insect protein a year.
Ynsect breeds and transforms insects into high-quality nutrients for livestock and pet food. With cutting-edge R&D, patented technologies and a world-leading multidisciplinary team, whose skills range from physiological entomology to biochemistry through robotics and IT, Ynsect was founded on a single visionary idea: placing insect-derived protein at the heart of the agri-food system to sustainably address the growing global demand for meat and fish.
Ynsect’s main product today is known as ‘TMP’ – Tenebrio molitor protein – a powder protein meal made of farmed mealworm larvae. To date, TMP is the only insect protein that shows considerable benefits on animal growth and health when in their diets fish meal is substituted with TMP.
