Alantra advises Post of Slovenia on the acquisition of a majority stake in Intereuropa, a leading logistics player in Southeastern Europe

May 17, 2019

Vienna – Alantra, an independent global investment banking and asset management firm, has advised Slovenia’s state-owned postal service, Post of Slovenia, on the acquisition of a 72% stake in local shipping firm Intereuropa.

Intereuropa is an integrated provider of land, maritime and air transport, warehousing and distribution services, with 2018 sales and EBITDA of €160m and €13m, respectively. It is listed on the Ljubljana stock exchange, but majority-owned by six banks who became shareholders through a debt-to-equity swap in 2012.

On 10 May 2019, Post of Slovenia entered into an agreement to acquire a 72% of Intereuropa from leading local banks, namely SID Banka, NLB, NKBM, Gorenjska Banka, Banka Intesa Sanpaolo and SKB (Société Générale). The acquisition of Intereuropa is in line with the strategic direction of Post of Slovenia, focusing on further diversification in logistics, parcel and related activities across Southeastern Europe.

The transaction, which is subject to approval from the relevant competition authorities, is anticipated to be concluded in the second half of this year.
